About This Station
The station is powered by a LaCrosse 2310 weather station. The data is collected on a PC every few seconds and is updated to the server every 8 seconds. This data is collected using Weather Display Software, v.10.37k. The weather server is a 2.6 Ghz P4, IBM NetVista w/Win XP, which updates the information to the web server. The station is comprised of a anemometer, temp and humidity gauge and rain gauge situated in optimal positions for highest accuracy possible. We are also are using a one wire lightening detector, which is very sensitive, seems pick up strikes up to 80 - 90 miles away. The network which is comprised of several computers both hard wired and wireless, is protected by Smoothwall Express software router and firewall, also running on a IBM NetVista.
The web server is a PIII 233mhz (eleven year young) machine running Fedora Linux and Apache, the server is hosting 14 other web sites, the servers connection to the internet is by wireless broadband running between 15 and 20 Mbps (usually less, sometimes more !!!).
Radar imagery is provided by Storm Predator software which reads the new format NWS radar and updates every 6 minutes or so, you will need to refresh the page for the latest image.
The web-cam is D-Link DCS100 ip camera, wireless connection to the weather server, installed on the front porch, looking to the East. The image is updated every two or three minutes. There is also a web cam which the Wyoming DEQ has installed on the hill above our town (to monitor visibility).
